HGGS Membership
Heidelberg University provides through the HGGS an interdisciplinary programme and certificate in the humanities, law and social sciences that provides valuable academic experience through cross-faculty exchange. The HGGS membership is open to motivated individual doctoral candidates as well as doctoral candidates in research projects or research training groups and complements the regular disciplinary doctoral training without being time-consuming.
New members can join the HGGS in the first or second year of their doctorate at Heidelberg University. Scholarship holders of the Begabtenförderungswerke (Funding organisations for gifted students), the Landesgraduiertenförderung (LGF) and already registered doctoral candidates at Heidelberg University are eligible for fast-track admission. In collaboration with the DAAD, the HGGS awards GSSP scholarships for a period of up to four years. International scholars with an individual DAAD scholarship are also encouraged to apply.
Self-financing is a common variable in the HGGS as several doctoral candidates in the humanities, law or social sciences are currently gaining work experience as research assistant or in another function at the university or in other workplaces. Doctoral candidates can join the HGGS for the summer or winter semester.
