Career skills for doctoral candidates Transferable Skills

The HGGS curriculum comprises both academic courses and transferable skills workshops. The latter are being offered by the Graduate Academy. During the course of their membership, HGGS doctoral scholars ought to take a minimum of two courses from Graduate Academy. Based on the experiences and needs of our members, we recommend in particular courses on  

  • Good Scientific Practice,  
  • Correct citation and avoiding plagiarism, 
  • Academic Poster Design, 
  • Conference Presentations, 
  • Slide Writing and Storytelling, 
  • Effective Visual Communication of Science, 
  • Thesis Defense Training.

These courses not only enhance the doctoral phase and academic qualification, but they also prepare for work outside of academia. Registration for these courses ought to be made through Graduate Academy, but the HGGS can list all successfully concluded workshops on the transcript of each member.
