International Conference HGGS Summer & Winter Forum

The HGGS Forum is an interdisciplinary conference organised by HGGS doctoral candidates in collaboration with the scientific coordinator of the HGGS. It enables members of the Graduate School to discuss central scientific questions from different disciplinary perspectives and to rethink their own scientific work in dialogue with experts and invited guests from leading research universities in Europe and abroad. In recent years, the topics of the forum have been ‘’Risks and Opportunities of the 21st Century‘’, ‘’Interdisciplinary Research‘’ and interdisciplinary concepts such as ‘’Mobility‘’, ‘’Space‘’, ‘’Change‘’, ‘’Communication and ‘’Identities‘’.

Summer Forum 2024

In June 2024, the HGGS invited doctoral candidates, postdocs and professors from Germany and abroad to take part in the ‘’Bridges and Crossings‘’ forum. Participants from 25 different countries gave presentations on how different bridges and transitions are formed to discuss the intersections of identity and culture. It was up for debate how research in the humanities, law and social sciences both challenges and incorporates bridges and transitions within their own positioning. To promote international mobility, the HGGS awarded travel grants to doctoral researchers from eight different countries.

HGGS members and invited scholars experimented with different formats to express and communicate scholarly insights, including a traditional PPT presentation, a flash talk video presentation and a creative output of their research (poetry, photography, collage) compiled in a zine and presented at the forum.
