Doctoral Candidate Yanyi Zheng

Yanyi Zheng is a doctoral student at the Institute of Anthropology under the supervision of PD Dr. Viola Thimm. She is a member of the Heidelberg Graduate School for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HGGS) and a scholarship holder of the DAAD-GSSP Scholarship at the HGGS.

Her doctoral research ‘Digital Nomads in a Globalized World. Perspectives on Space and Place-making in Mobile Contexts’ draws upon an interdisciplinary theoretical framework that synthesizes from mobilities approach, theories of space and place, and nomadism to analyse the hyper-mobile and connected life worlds of digital nomads. Her regional focus lies in Southeast Asia especially Bali/Indonesia. She also has an interest in digital ethnography which is part of the methodology of her research.

Yanyi Zheng received her master’s degree in social anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and bachelor’s degree from Nankai University in China.
