Doctoral Candidate Vilma Vaskelaitė

Vilma Vaskelaitė was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, and completed her Bachelor's degree in History at the University of Vilnius. A semester abroad in Germany within the Erasmus+ Programme inspired her to move to Heidelberg for her Master's degree. In both her Bachelor's and Master's theses, she focussed on the changing world of subaltern milieus in Eastern Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, using inter alia quantitative methods. She is currently doing her doctorate at the Heidelberg University with a dissertation project oriented toward the sociology of knowledge. She is also involved in the German-Lithuanian knowledge exchange by working in the editorial board of the Deutsch-Baltischen Jahrbuch and organising the Respublica litteraria Baltica annual seminar series at Haus Annaberg, Bonn. She also pursues her interests in the politics of memory as part of her work on the international research project ‘The Aggressor’ (Heidelberg University).
