Doctoral Candidate Cristian Camilo Cuervo
Cristian Camilo Cuervo is a Colombian writer and philologist. He studied English Philology (BA) at the National University of Colombia, and Contemporary History (MA) at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain. He is currently a doctoral candidate in English Literary Studies at Heidelberg University.
After 2008, he worked with different governmental agencies of the City Hall of Bogotá such as IDPAC (District Institute of Participation and Community Action), and IDIPRON (District Institute for the Protection of Children and Youth). With IDPAC, he advised social organizations of older adults, women, youth, people with disabilities, LGBT+ people, ethnic minorities, and people displaced by violence. From 2013 to 2016 he served in IDIPRON as a general pedagogical coordinator, formulating and leading projects for the inclusion of children and adolescents in situation of high social vulnerability, and in 2017, he worked as a professional for social issues in the Secretariat of Education of Bogotá.
In parallel, from 2017 to 2019, he was as a university lecturer of English and Anglophone cultures at the National University of Colombia. Since 2020, he has been a holder of a Research Grant for Doctoral Programmes awarded by the DAAD.
He is an author and illustrator of books of shorts stories and other forms of narrative prose, and a creator of fictional countries and artificial languages. He has done research on public participation, political history of women and the therapeutic dimensions of writing and narrative. His academic and personal interests also include historical and speculative fiction, counterfactual history, uchronias, gender literary criticism, creative writing, reading promotion, language didactics, educational processes and social inclusion.
The subject of his doctoral dissertation is "Representations of women in female-authored Anglophone uchronias".
